Why QR code is the best way to pay in Brazil
QR codes are how people pay in Brazil: hold up a phone, scan the code on the counter, done. Pix, the central bank's instant payment system, took over Brazil in a couple of years: street vendors, taxi drivers, restaurants and hotels all show a Pix code, and many small sellers prefer it to cards. Foreign cards work in the cities, but often with a surcharge and always at your bank's rate.
