Why QR code is the best way to pay in Colombia
QR codes are how people pay in Colombia: hold up a phone, scan the code on the counter, done. Colombians pay with Nequi and DaviPlata, the wallets nearly everyone has, and Bre-B, the central bank's new instant system, ties the banks together behind one code. Cafés, tiendas, taxis, hostels and market stalls show a code, and many small sellers never take cards.

The problem with paying abroad as a tourist, expat or nomad
